Obama-kun ga daisuki!

I have managed to keep up with the election news via CNN.com and Japanese news shows (which are pretty much undecipherable). From what I had gathered, the politics in the international student community were liberal. Even students from foreign countries would talk to me about the election. All in all, a very exciting time!

Two days ago, we received an e-mail advertising that the election would be screened live in one of the rooms in the CIE building. Good to know.
But today I woke up, and kept refreshing the CNN.com homepage throughout the morning until I had to go catch my bus. In the 10 minutes between classes I checked the site again, and I was giddy that Obama was in the lead.
And then, about 45 minutes into my next class, my professor looked up from his laptop and said, "Oh, just so you know, Obama just won the election in the United States." Me and two other students started freaking out. It was such an awesome moment. I only wish I had been on the Oberlin campus for this. I can only imagine that the euphoria was palpable.

Anyway, I met up with some of my friends after class and we all started rejoicing together. For the first time, we're proud to be Americans in Japan! (Though I am not happy about how Prop 8 and other such elections are going.) So we decided to celebrate in the most American way we could while staying on campus.

We had big ol' McDonald's burgers and fries for lunch.

Palpable? You have no idea. Oberlin students poured out onto Tappan listening to the entire jazz department play from the bandstand, and started dancing (and, this being Oberlin, in some cases stripping) and chanting "USA! USA! USA! OBAMA!" over and over again. It was amazing. I wish you had been here to see it.

Also, ♥ the chibi Obama. And you should know that all three of these recent posts just came through on my RSS feed now, hence the late response.
